NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — Christa Pike is still unconscious and on a ventilator at a hospital four days after her failed execution, according to one of her lawyers.
Few details have been released about Pike's condition after she was hospitalized following her failed execution. She received two sets of pentobarbital which did not kill her and left her arms “swollen, burned and blistered.” Her attorneys said Friday in a statement that she was receiving treatment for the effects of pentobarbital administered.
Pike’s lawyer, Assistant Federal Defender Stephen Ferrell, was asked Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union” if Pike had ever regained consciousness after the execution attempt, to which he replied, "Not that I am aware of."

Ferrell said that Pike gave someone her medical power of attorney to protect her privacy, and her attorneys have not identified who is making Pike's medical decisions. Whether or not Pike can recover, or what will happen next, remains in question.
After the failed execution, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee called for an independent, third-party investigation to determine what exactly went wrong, and has paused all executions for the rest of the year.
Pike's attorneys argue that the Governor should commute Pike's sentence in the wake of her condition.
“If she recovers, she may not fully recover. And there may be issues about her competence,” Ferrell said.

Should have given her fentynal that would have done it. She gave up her rights when she brutally murdered someone. To bad she's unconscious. She needed to feel the pain she inflicted. No sympathy from me.
